Melma (mire) is a primordial matter, something that conceals the view and projects onto the unknown, considered both as an inner world and as tension towards the outside world. I have always compared art to fishing with bare hands in the mud, where it is possible to find what you do not know but try to recognise. Mire recalls for each of us something messy, swampy, magmatic and shitty, but it also refers to certain mythologies for which both mist and mire are portals that allow access to magical and mysterious places. On a sensorial level, it reminds of a prenatal state. It is from the earth, from humus, that human beings are moulded. Mire is antithetical to the search for life outside our planet, towards stars and other constellations. We should care about our presence on Earth instead of looking for the solution somewhere else. We hide chaos, we don’t dig into the mire but project it somewhere else.
