Lo studio prende le mosse dalla collocazione prestigiosa della figura del labirinto al centro della navata di importanti cattedrali europee. La ricerca storica rivela un suo utilizzo liturgico di uguale prestigio nelle due celebrazioni principali dell’anno: la veglia di Natale e di Pasqua. L’indagine porta a formulare l’ipotesi che l’interesse per il labirinto sia da connettersi con l’affermarsi delle lingue romanze e, in particolare, della poesia costruita sulla rima. Come ogni rimante scandisce il percorso poetico indirizzandolo alla rima finale che lo attrae e lo ordina, così il Verbo di Dio al centro del labirinto viene traguardato a ogni svolta. Il labirinto rappresenta liturgicamente e architettonicamente il pellegrinaggio dell’intera esistenza cristiana ordinato dal Cristo pasquale.
The Word becomes rhyme and rhythm. Study on Christian medieval labyrinth
This essay starts from the impressive location of the labyrinth representation in the centre of the nave of important European cathedrals. The historical research reveals its liturgical usage, with the same level of prestige, in the two major celebrations of the liturgical year: the Christmas Vigil and the Mother Vigil of Easter. With reference to the research it is possible to make the hypothesis that the interest for the labyrinth must be linked with the Romance languages establishment, particularly with the poetry based on the rhyme. Like every rhyming scans the poetic way addressing it to the final rhyme, that draws and orders it, so the Word of God in the centre of the labyrinth is sighted at every turn. The labyrinth represents liturgically and architecturally the pilgrimage of the whole Christian existence, that is directed by the paschal Christ.
