Il simbolo della croce nello spazio liturgico. Estetica e poietica

Presentato al VII Convegno internazionale: La croce e il mondo (Venezia 2009), l’articolo è apparso nella rivista «Esempi di Architettura» 3 (2010) 25-34 con altri contributi di notevole interesse per l’architettura e l’arte per la liturgia. La diffusione relativa in ambito liturgico della rivista ha orientato per la ristampa dell’articolo di sicuro interesse nell’insieme dei contributi sul «programma iconografico» nell’aula ecclesiale. Soltanto negli ultimi anni si è fatta vivace la problematica circa il «dove» collocare la croce. Alla luce del che cos’è l’icona simbolica della croce e i temi che ne motivano la presenza nello spazio liturgico, si interroga la storia per comprendere come e perché sia stato proposto un luogo o l’altro senza mai assolutizzarne uno specifico. La lezione della storia e delle dinamiche rituali sono aspetti che devono essere tenuti presenti per privilegiare un luogo o l’altro ove collocare il simbolo della croce.

The symbol of the cross in the liturgical space. Aesthetics and poietic

Presented at the VII International Conference: The cross and the world (Venice 2009), this article appeared in the magazine «Esempi di Architettura» 3 (2010) 25-34, together with other contributions of considerable interest for architecture and art for the liturgy. The reduced circulation of this magazine in the liturgical environment has induced to reprint this article of great interest on the whole of contributions about the «iconographic program» of the church’s aula. Only in recent years it has become lively the problematic about «where» the cross has to be placed. In the light of what is the symbolic icon of the cross and with reference to themes that motivate its presence in the liturgical space, the history is explored, in order to understand how and why it was proposed a place or another one, without never absolutizing a specific one. The lesson of history and ritual dynamics are aspects that must be kept in mind for giving priority to one place or another where to put the symbol of the cross.
