Summary
The characteristic that marks the impressive wealth of mature reflection of Edith Stein (1891-1942) is the implied correlation between philosophy and theology. This note which takes as its point of departure a recent research of the literature by Francesco Alfieri, tries to grasp the developments of her personal ecclesiological concept of community as developed in a contribution that appeared in the Jahrbuch edited by Husserl. The union between the community – not only as a simple “aggregation” of people – and the Church, is based on three fundamental dimensions: nature/body, freedom and grace. It is from these aspects that we can speak of the Church in its inherent tension between charism and institution.
