Il bacio nell’arte cristiana

L’arte cristiana, anche nella rappresentazione di episodi in cui la Scrittura menziona il bacio fra i protagonisti, generalmente lo trasforma in un bacio/abbraccio. Numerosissimi sono gli esempi sia nell’Antico che nel Nuovo Testamento, a partire dal bacio che si scambiano gli sposi del Cantico dei Cantici, ma l’immagine più famosa è il bacio di Giuda. Segue, poi, la figura della peccatrice, che bacia i piedi di Gesù a casa del fariseo, ma nei Vangeli c’è anche il magio più anziano che bacia il piede di Gesù Bambino, così come nella crocifissione e deposizione Maria, la Maddalena e Giovanni si alternano nel baciare le mani o piedi del Cristo morto. Un bacio/abbraccio è quello fra Gioacchino e Anna alla Porta d’Oro, ripreso dagli apocrifi, e quello tra Pietro e Paolo.

The kiss in the Christian art

The Christian art, also in the representation of events in which the Scripture mentions the kiss between the protagonists, generally transforms it in a kiss/embrace. Very many are the examples of this in the Old as well in the New Testament, beginning with the kiss that the spouses exchange in the Song of Songs, but the most famous image is Judas’ kiss. Then we have the figure of the sinner woman who kisses the feet of Jesus in the Pharisee’s house. But in the Gospels there is also the oldest wise man who kisses the foot of the Infabt Jesus, as well in the crucifixion and the deposition from the cross we have Mary, the Magdalene and John, who in turn are kissing hands or feet of the dead Christ. A kiss/embrace is that one between Joachim and Anna at the Golden Gate, a scene coming from the Apocrypha, and also the kiss between Peter and Paul.
