Summary

Today’s world with its emerging new channels and forms of communication represents a fundamental challenge for the Church and theology. The Author invites the reader to resist the temptation to timidity or denial in the face of these new circumstances (at times determined by the defects associated with communication today) and, through an examination of certain biblical examples of communication, he stresses the importance of a commitment to communicate more effectively in today’s world. Finally, he suggests a number of emphases intended to make evangelization more clear and effective. Among these he lists 1) preserving Christian identity while avoiding facile understandings or syncretisms that weaken the paradox and scandal of the Christian faith; 2) communicating the authentic, identity-conveying message of the Christian faith; and 3) listening attentively to the other which is the primary source of dialogue, understood as the encounter between two logoi.
